The Augury Rag

The Augury Rag (homage to Tom Lehrer with an ancient Rome twist)

Make those Romans ill at ease,

Meddle with your auguries,

Lift your heard with great respect,

And sky inspect, sky inspect, sky inspect,

Ecce hic for a neat omen,

When in Rome, think like a Roman,

Call out the haruspisces,

Specta et tunc aspice,

Doing the augury rag!

Get thee now to that collegium,

And obey the sacrilegium,

You'll see if you'll be elected,

Once all the vics have been selected,

And if your campaign's bound to falter,

Slay a few more on the altar,

Two, four, six, eight,

I just want the consulate!

So, make those Romans ill at ease,

Meddle with your auguries,

Lift your heard with great respect,

And sky inspect, sky inspect, sky inspect,

Get your reading from the liver,

Give them news that makes 'em quiver,

Go look for an eagle,

Make sure that you're legal,

Getting officious, and so superstitious

And doing the augury RAAAAG!
